3D tomography

3D computed tomography is the most advanced diagnostic method, widely used in dentistry. The advanced “i-CAT Precise” CT scanner used at the Vilnius Dental Center allows even highly complex procedures or comprehensive treatment to be planned and performed quickly, smoothly, and accurately.

3D computed tomography is performed in cases where standard 2D dental or panoramic X-rays are insufficient. 3D images provide the dentist with extremely detailed information about the condition of the teeth and jaws, allowing for an accurate assessment of bone density, width, height, tooth roots, and important anatomical structures. This examination is most commonly used when planning implant procedures, endodontic treatment, and prior to bone grafting, sinus floor elevation, and wisdom tooth extraction surgeries.

3D PHOTO HELPS:

Diagnose oral pathology

Assess the position of the spaced teeth

Accurately assess the bone prior to implantation

Evaluate the maxillary sinuses

View the mandibular nerve canal

Notice a crack in the tooth root

3D computed tomography – the standard of precision and safety in modern dentistry. Using 3D computed tomography, it is possible not only to plan treatment accurately but also to objectively evaluate its results and monitor changes following procedures. One of the most important advantages of this method is the significantly reduced dose of ionizing radiation. During the examination, the patient receives significantly less radiation than with conventional X-rays, making this method extremely safe.

F.A.Q.

3D computed tomography is a modern diagnostic method that provides a three-dimensional image of the teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures. It is necessary in more complex cases where standard 2D dental or panoramic X-rays are insufficient. 3D tomography can be used for implant planning, diagnosing periodontal pathology, or identifying cracks in tooth roots.

Yes, 3D tomography is a safe procedure because it uses a significantly lower dose of ionizing radiation than standard X-rays. Therefore, this method is suitable even for frequent diagnostic procedures, evaluating treatment outcomes, and similar purposes.

A 3D tomography scan is quick—it takes just a few minutes. The procedure is completely painless and causes no discomfort to the patient.

Unlike a standard X-ray, 3D tomography provides a three-dimensional image that allows the dentist to thoroughly assess bone density, width, and height, and to accurately determine the condition of the tooth roots and important anatomical structures. This is particularly important for planning complex procedures, such as implant placement or surgical treatment.

No, 3D tomography is performed only when it is needed for a specific diagnosis or to develop a treatment plan. In most cases, dental or panoramic X-rays are sufficient. Whether this examination is necessary is determined by the dentist on a case-by-case basis.
